Christmas markets

The time of Christmas in Vienna is really worth a journey and going to the one or other unusual and beautiful Christmas market an unforgettable experience. The lovely illuminated stands with the decorative hand-crafted treasures,  overflowing with candy, typical food, glühwein, hot punch and the smell of gingerbread and spices will fill you with enthusiasm and joy. The best known and greatest Christmas markets in Vienna are:

  • At the Rathausplatz: The greatest and most traditional Christmas market of Vienna with an incomparable scenery.
  • Schloss Schönbrunn: A bit smaller, many arts and crafts, not so overcrowded and with the castle in the background an overwhelming sight.
  • Spittelberg: many arts and crafts with a lot of  alternative art and objects.
  • Old general hospital: There is a so-called insider Christmas market in the old building of the AKH where you can meet many Viennese who enjoy their hot punch or glühwein after work.

The whole city of Vienna is a sea of lights and where ever you go you will be bewitched.

New Year's Eve path

An unusual and special experience is the unique New Year's Eve path in Vienna.  The whole city center becomes one single New Year's Eve party. This way leads you from station to station with different topics.

Music from all directions, much sparkling wine, good mood everywhere and happy like-minded ones will dance with you into the New Year, traditionally accompanied  by the Viennese waltz and an amazing firework.

And when you can see tears in the eyes of the old Viennese you find that the reason for this lies within the old Pummerin. This great bell high up inside the tower of the St. Stephen’s Cathedral welcomes the New Year with her incomparable sound and touches the heart of everyone.
