Attention! Parking on the streets in Vienna is chargeable!

Chargeable short-stay parking zones

If you arrive with your car, please note that most of the districts inVienna are chargeable short-stay parking zones.

Parking fees have to be paid Monday to Friday from 8-22 o’clock (except for holidays). This normally happens by filling out the parking-tickets, which are available at tobacconist's and the sales stands of the Viennese lines (subway stations etc. ) for 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes each.

 

An hour parking costs 2 €.


The parking-tickets must be filled out exactly, although the time may be rounded up to the next one quarter hour’s. Parking limitedly until a maximum time of usually 2 hours. If you combine more than one ticket, you have to write the same time on all of them. An invalid or missing parking-ticket can be fined with currently 36.- €.


Parking on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays is free. There are also free 10 minutes park-tickets that can be used for short stays, but no rounding up or combining with the regular park-tickets is allowed.

For longer trips to the inner city, it is advisable to park in one of the numerous park garages,  or to use the public transport system.

 

Public transport

The public transport network in Vienna has improved a lot. It only takes approx. 20 minutes from our house to Stephansdom, one of the emblem of Vienna inside the old town.


The following means of transportation are available: Tramway, bus, subway and urban rail (Schnellbahn).

Tickes can be bought in most of all tobacconists and bigger underground stations.

 

Tourist information

The main tourist information of Vienna is at the corner Albertinaplatz/ Maysedergasse behind the Viennese State Opera which is open daily from 9h till 19h. More information can be found under:  www.wien.info

 

Maps

Various printed maps of Vienna can be bought in all larger bookstores or many gas stations. 


A free online service of the city of Vienna is recommendable. There, you can find any  arbitrary address of the city,. as well as the surroundings plan, incl. the public transport. Aerial pictures are offered too. Take a look under: Vienna City Map
